Significance of Mise-en-scene

Mise en scene is the basis of what a film will represent. It illustrates how the scene, props, characters, etc will be utilized in a film.

There are 5 things that a mise en scene consists of:

-setting

-decor

-lighting

-depth of space

- costumes/props

With all five of these elements combined a successful mise en scene is created. All of them serve the purpose of giving a certain appeal to the audience. For example, in the film "Wonder Woman 1984" there's a hallway scene. She dressed in super hero outfit with her whip and the camera focuses mostly on her and what she does in this scene. In that one particular scene, all five of the elements of a mise en scene was incorporated which gave the watching audience an idea of what she was about to do in the film.
